View from Pier. Coolins in background. Portree

Taken from the shore near the end of the pier in Portree, this view captures the picturesque setting of the village looking south into Loch Portree, with the Cuillin range in the distance. The garden of the Marine Hotel is situated on the extreme right. The Hotel, which was a feature of the harbour from the turn of the century, was demolished in the late 1950s to allow for expansion of the fuel depot. The wooded slopes of the Meall, or Lump, rise towards the location of the Apothecary's tower, a local viewpoint, and the Highland Games arena
