This large imposing celtic cross marks the burial place of Flora MacDonald in Kilmuir in north Skye. The original monument, a cross of red granite, was put up in 1871, but blew down several years later. In 1880 this new cross was erected, and refurbished in 1922. Flora MacDonald was well known in her lifetime for her help in getting Bonnie Prince Charlie from Uist to Skye. It is said that her funeral brought 3000 people from far and wide
