Highland Cattle on Trek, Isle of Skye

Loch Snizort Beag lies in the background of this photograph, taken near the former Bernisdale school which was situated between Treaslane and Skeabost. The cattle are probably being driven to market at Portree, some 7 miles away, or perhaps to Kyleakin in the south of the island prior to shipment further afield. The large scale droving of cattle from the Outer Isles, through Skye, to Glenelg on the mainland then south to the Trysts at Falkirk and Crieff, were no longer a feature of Highland life by this time
