Mallaig Harbour with Isles of Rum and Skye

This postcard contains a painting of a view across Mallaig Harbour, with the islands of Rum and Skye in the background. Many of the boats in the harbour appear to be pleasure yachts.

Today, Mallaig is a thriving fishing port, the largest on the west coast of Scotland, and boasts Europe's largest catches of prawns. A town of a thousand or so inhabitants, ferries leave Mallaig regularly for Skye and the Small Isles of Canna, Rum, Eigg, Muck, Coll and Tiree.
