The Massacre of Glencoe - scene of the massacre

This postcard, entitled 'The Massacre of Glencoe,' provides a brief overview of the tragic event of 1692. A company of Government soldiers, under the command of Captain Robert Campbell, posed as guests before betraying Macdonald hospitality and murdered their hosts. In all, 38 Macdonald clansmen were massacred in their beds, including the chief, Iain Macdonald. The massacre remains an evocative and emotive event in Highland history.

A photograph is provided of the valley in which the massacre took place.
