Fort Augustus, Caledonian Canal

Fort Augustus is a small village taking its name from a fort erected after the rebellion of 1715. The building has latterly disappeared, swallowed up in a very fine Gothic structure, consisting of a Benedictine College and Monastery. At Fort Augustus there is a chain of locks requiring an hour to get through, therefore tourists have ample time to have a good look round this pictuesque village
