Invergordon Pool, "Courageous" in background

This postcard shows Invergordon Pool, 'Courageous' in background.

Invergordon swimming pool was located on Saltburn Road on the east side of the town.

There had been a swimming station at the east end of the town since the beginning of the 20th century. Around 1930 a proper outdoor pool was constructed. Seawater was pumped in from the sea at high tide and drained when the tide had gone down. The pool was demolished in the mid-1970s when the ring road was built

HMS Courageous was a battle cruiser built by Armstrong Whitworth and commissioned in 1915. She saw action in World War I. In the 1920s she was converted in to an aircraft carrier but was sunk off the coast of Ireland by a U-boat in September 1939.
