General view Conduit near Dam, Kinlochleven

This photograph, taken from a general view conduit, shows the Kinlochleven Dam, still under construction. The dam, measuring 914 metres in length and 27 metres in height, is the longest in the Highlands and its completion created the Blackwater Reservoir. A significant project, it was one of the final undertakings of the traditional 'navvy' workforce. Built at an elevation of over 300 metres, it required some 6 km of concrete aqueduct and almost 13 km of steel pipe.
