Conduit and Cable Railway, D Section, Kinlochleven

This photograph shows a section of the conduit and Cable Railway associated with the dam and Aluminium Works at Kinlochleven. The dam, measuring 914 metres in length and 27 metres in height, is the longest in the Highlands and its completion created the Blackwater Reservoir. A significant project, it was one of the final undertakings of the traditional 'navvy' workforce. Built at an elevation of over 300 metres, it required some 6 km of concrete aqueduct and almost 13 km of steel pipe.
