'Getting ready for a Haul', Loch Ness

This postcard, titled 'Getting ready for a Haul, Loch Ness', shows members of the Benedictine Abbey at Fort Augustus preparing for a fishing trip.

The Community of St Benedict's Abbey in Fort Augustus was founded in 1876, and was a re-foundation of the monastery of St. James at Ratisbon (Regensburg) in Bavaria, which was suppressed in 1862.

The Community of St. Benedict's Abbey dissolved in 1998 and the Abbey was sold to private investors. The Abbey housed an important collection of books and manuscripts, which has since been transferred to the National Library of Scotland.
