This postcard is titled "Craig Dhu from Glen Truim, near Newtonmore". The writer of the porstcard states, "Train for Newtonmore leaves Inverness at 5.30 pm but I think you might come by Forres and Aviemore. Much love B.J.S."

Craig Dhu is a misspelling of the hill Creag Dhubh, a hill measuring 716 m (2350 ft) that lies southwest of Newtonmore village. Its name is the traditional rallying cry for the Clan MacPherson.

The arrival of the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway to Newtonmore in 1863 brought increased development and prosperity to the village due to the ensuing upturn of trade and tourism.
