At Carinish (Cairinis), North Uist

Carinish is on the south-west coast of North Uist. It is opposite the island of Baleshare and close to the causeways linking North Uist with Grimsay and Benbecula. In 1601 Carinish was the scene of a battle in which the MacDonalds defeated the MacLeods. The battle is remembered in the song "'Ic Iain 'Ic Sheumais".

This photograph shows cattle wandering around in front of a number of thatched buildings. The precise date is unknown, but the photograph was registered with the publisher, Valentine, in approximately 1909
