The Shore Inn at Fortrose Harbour

A photograph of the Shore Inn at Fortrose Harbour. The sign reads 'Licensed to retail beer spirits and wine Shore Inn John Smith. On the back is noted 1899 Fortrose, John Smith, Hannah MacKenzie.

Fortrose is a small burgh, located on the Moray Firth, some six miles north-east of Inverness. The town is best known for Fortrose Cathedral, which was first built in the 13th century, and became the seat of the bishopric of Ross. Much of the structure was demolished, however, during the mid-century, to provide materials for Oliver Cromwell's citadel at Inverness.
