Laying the cornerstone of the Gordon Memorial Hall

This photograph was taken to mark the laying of the foundation stone of the Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie, a village on the south coast of the Black Isle. The hall was built in 1904 in memory of two brothers with the surname Gordon and remains in use as the village hall to this day.

The lady in the front right of the photograph has been identified as H. Ross, and the child beside her, looking up at the camera, as Jean Ross. The man at the top right of the photograph wearing the cap is Rod McRae. The man wearing the top hat in the centre right of the photograph, just behind the lady with the trowel, is Provost Sutherland.
