Ullapool's Bicentenary Celebrations, 1988

The banner and bunting that welcomed visitors to Ullapool during the Bicentenary celebrations in Ullapool, marking 200 years since the foundation of Ullapool by the British Fisheries Society in 1788.

The village was part of the grand scheme initiated by the British Fisheries Society to encourage and support Scottish fishing vessels to fish for herring off the coast of Scotland and to compete with Dutch and other foreign boats. This view is of Shore Street, one of the original streets of Ullapool.
