Jessie Campbell from Dornie, Achiltibuie

This is a studio portrait of Miss Jessie Campbell whose family owned and operated a general merchants store at Dornie, Achiltibuie. Jessie was one of six children. Two of the girls stayed at home with their two brothers and ran the shop. The other two girls moved away from the parish. The shop opened in 1846 and closed c1964. It is now a private house.

Dornie is to the west end of Polbain, one of the townships making up Achiltibuie. The shop was situated close to the coast and the supplies were originally delivered by sea.
