Mobile bank, Lochbroom

This photo shows a Royal Bank of Scotland mobile, in the vicinity of Lochbroom. Mobile banks played a vital role in providing everyday services to rural communities throughout the Highlands of Scotland. Most people did not yet have access to personal transport and even with this access, some had to travel several miles before reaching essential services. This made communities highly dependant on mobiles to bring everyday services to them.

Today, despite improvements in roads and transport, for many people in rural locations mobiles provide the only means of gaining regular access to essential services.
