Achiltibuie Hotel

A view of the Achiltibuie Hotel, in Achiltibuie on the west coast of Scotland.

Achiltibuie is a small crofting community, overlooking Loch Broom and the Summer Isles to the west. The village is located 10 miles northwest of Ullapool, and is home to the Hydroponicum, a garden where many non-native plants are grown in water rather than soil, using a hydroponics system.

Lucie Irving, whose experience as a castaway on the island of Tuin, in the Torres Strait between New Guinea and Australia, was made into a motion picture called 'Castaway', was brought up in the hotel. Her parents owned the premises along with the Hydroponicum.
