This audio extract is from a recording made at a unique fiddle workshop held on 15 June 2010 by The Highland Council's Inverness Traditional Music Project, in partnership with Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, in which the work of two famous fiddlers and fiddle makers - Alexander 'Battan' Grant and Donald Riddell - was celebrated.
At the workshop, Sarah-Jane Summers and Irene Fraser, both former students of Donald Riddell, talked about Grant and Riddell and led a fiddle session in one of the Inverness Museum's galleries. On display was Grant's unique invention, the Rondello, a round violin which, when new, was said to have sounded as clear as the human voice singing.
In this extract, Sarah-Jane and Irene are joined in a fiddle playing session by some of the workshop participants. The image shows Sarah-Jane (right) and Emma Donald (left) enjoying the fiddle session after the workshop.
