The current building at Kingussie High School was opened in October 1970. As part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary in 2010, several pupils at Kingussie High School recently took part in oral history recordings during the school's activity weeks at the end of the academic year.

In this extract, Sophia Burnett is being interviewed by Laura Mackenzie.

Interviewer: What is your name and age, and what year are you in?

Sophia: My name is Sophia Burnett, and I'm thirteen, and I am in second year.

Interviewer: Where do you live and how do you get to school?

Sophia: I live in Aviemore and I get the bus to school.

Interviewer: What do you wear to school?

Sophia: I wear black trousers, a white shirt, a tie, and a black cardigan.

Interviewer: Are you happy with your school uniform?

Sophia: Not really.

Interviewer: What do you do at interval and lunch time?

Sophia: Just like, chat with my mates.

Interviewer: What do you usually eat?

Sophia: At break I don't eat anything but at lunch I go to the Co-op and get a sausage roll and some sweets.

Interviewer: Do you ever play any games or sports at school, either before classes, in the interval, or at lunch time?

Sophia: I sometimes do gymnastics.

Interviewer: What are your favourite subjects at school?

Sophia: Favourite subjects are PE and art.

Interviewer: Which teachers do you think you'll remember once you've left school and what will you remember about them?

Sophia: Miss Kunz because she always made me laugh and also Mr Taylor who was teaching history. He was funny.

Interviewer: What do you hope to do once you leave school?

Sophia: I want to do something with fashion.
