It has been suggested that the Lady Ramsay of the title was the daughter of George Ramsay, 8th Earl of Dalhousie. The tune has several versions and can be found under several different names. This recording has the tune played as a strathspey but it is also popular as a reel. In Ireland a version of the tune is played as a 'Highland', a type of Irish tune similar to the Scottish strathspey.

This extract was taken from the cd 'Ruby's Reel' by the Inverness Fiddlers.
