In this audio extract, Wilma Mackenzie of Thurso describes how a poor family had to survive on welfare hand-outs from the poor inspector in the 1920s. She mentions the word 'scoo', a type of woven, flat basket for holding fishing lines, and the word 'cadger', a man who went round to see what he could buy in an opportunistic way for later resale, hence the word 'to cadge'.
