These interviews were conducted by school pupils as part of a 'Their Past Your Future' project.

Esther MacDonald was interviewed at Helmsdale Primary School about her father, John Oliver Fraser Mackay. Her father was in the 5th Seaforths, the territorial unit, during World War 2 and was blown up by a mine at El Alamein. He lost both of his legs and spent time recovering in Egypt, South Africa and England before returning to his parent's house in Portgower, Sutherland. After the war he became a crofter and was also a Councillor for fifty years.
