Four Skye Ladies

Four ladies pose here for a photograph. It is suggested that they are from Isle of Skye although this hasn't been confirmed. The style of their dresses suggests the photograph was taken around 1900. The fitted bodice with high collared neckline and peaked sleeves becoming very narrow and fitted below the elbow, were of this period. The skirts feature flat fronts, with pleating to the side and back, but without the great volume of cloth of earlier decades.
