This photograph shows a crownd gathered for the opening ceremony of the United Free Church at Latheron.

The United Free Church was formed in 1900 out of a merger of the Free Church of Scotland and the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland. In 1929, the United Free Church joined with the Church of Scotland.

Latheron is a small village on the east coast of Caithness, about 30 kilometres south of Wick.

This union allowed hymn singing and musical instruments.
