"The Croft" was a Highly Commended entry in the Secondary Schools section of the 2015 Neil Gunn Writing Competition. It was written by Rosie Young, a pupil at Fortrose Academy.

This year the theme for secondary school entrants was "It was as if happiness itself had worked and dwelt here. The feet of happiness still moved about the grass and eddied in the wind." (from The Serpent)

The Neil Gunn Writing Competition is organised by library staff from High Life Highland in partnership with the Neil Gunn Trust. It was first established in 1988.
