This marble bust of William Mackintosh is on display in Inverness Town House, on the staircase, on the right hand side of the landing. The sculptor was Andrew Davidson.

William Mackintosh was born on 20 February 1815 in Edenkillie, Morayshire where his father was a farmer and road contractor. Mackintosh was educated at the parish school. He came to Inverness in 1833 where he established a successful wine merchant's business in Factory Place.

Mackintosh served on the Town Council for fourteen or fifteen years. He was elected provost after the resignation of Provost Alexander Simpson in January 1880.

Provost Mackintosh died at his home, Inshes House, on 21 October 1880 while still in office.
