Forse Castle

The ruins of Forse Castle stand on the east coast of Caithness, about 3 kilometres south of the village of Lybster. It was built some time around the beginning if the 13th century by Sir Reginald de Cheyne and passed to the Clan Keith in 1350 after the marriage of one of Sir Reginald's daughters. It later passed, again through marriage, to the Clan Sutherland and became the seat of the Sutherland of Forse branch of the clan until 1771, when it was abandoned.
