The Deil's Brig, Holborn Head, Thurso

The north coast of Caithness is subject to the full force of the sea. Storm waves have been known to reach 60 metres in height. Erosion of the Old Red Sandstone flagstone cliffs has resulted in a rugged coastline with caves and stacks.

At Holborn Head a shaft in the roof of a cave has broken through to the surface forming "gloup" or "blowhole" and caves on either side of a headland have united to form a natural arch.
