A letter from the Manager of the British Aluminium Company at Foyers informing the Secretary of the Highland Squirrel Club that they were considering becoming a member of the Club but had doubts about the benefits it would bring.
In 1844, Lady Lovat persuaded the government to re-introduce red squirrels in the Highlands. However, their numbers multiplied rapidly, as did their outward migration. In response to the damage caused to woodlands landowners formed a Highland Squirrel Club with the purpose of hunting, trapping, and killing the squirrels. The society paid a sum of money for each squirrel killed by the landowners or their staff, the total being determined by the number of tails submitted
