Land Deed between Samuel and Henry Williams, North Carolina

This indenture dated 4 October 1770 records an agreement between Samuel Williams and Henry Williams for land sold in County Anson, North Carolina. Under the agreement Henry paid Samuel £51:10:0 for 127 acres at the fork of Cheeks Creek, east of Little River. Samuel was originally granted the land as part of a settlement for 254 acres on 4 May 1769.

The document is part of the JLM Mitchell Archive of the Gaelic Society of Inverness. Sheriff James Lachlan Martin Mitchell (b. 13 June 1929) was a native of Inverness and son of well-known doctor, Lachlan Mitchell. He was appointed full-time sheriff in Edinburgh in 1978 and served there until his retirement in 1995. He died on 26 November 2001
