Land Sale between James Manasco and Henry Williams, North Carolina

This indenture or deed of agreement, dated 31 December 1770, is between James Manasco in county [?], North Carolina and Henry Williams, county Anson, North Carolina. Under the agreement, Manasco sold 200 acres of land (as described) to Williams for £20, land which had previously been granted to Manasco in 1764. The indenture was registered at Anson County court and contains marks instead of signatures.

The document is part of the JLM Mitchell Archive of the Gaelic Society of Inverness. Sheriff James Lachlan Martin Mitchell (b. 13 June 1929) was a native of Inverness and son of well-known doctor, Lachlan Mitchell. He was appointed full-time sheriff in Edinburgh in 1978 and served there until his retirement in 1995. He died on 26 November 2001
