Admission Ticket to Glasgow Lying-in Hospital

This six-month Admission Ticket dated 1 September 1835 is for the Glasgow Lying-in Hospital. It was issued to Mr. Lachlan M. Mathieson. On the reverse is a note signed by J. Wilson which states, 'Mr Matheson regularly attended the Lying-in Hospital for six months'. As Matheson was eventually to become a doctor, it is likely he was attending the hospital for training. The document is part of the JLM Mitchell Archive of the Gaelic Society of Inverness. Lachlan Matheson was Mitchell's great grandfather.

Sheriff James Lachlan Martin Mitchell (b. 13 June 1929) was a native of Inverness and son of well-known doctor, Lachlan Mitchell. He was appointed full-time sheriff in Edinburgh in 1978 and served there until his retirement in 1995. He died on 26 November 2001
