Letter to Ann MacGregor from her husband, page 1

This letter dated 12 August 1845 was sent from Dr, Lachlan Martin Matheson at Portree to his wife Ann at 'the Mineral' (probably Strathpeffer). Lachlan reports various items of local news and urges his wife to stay as long as possible to ensure her recovery. At this time, Strathpeffer was an expanding tourist destination with visitors taking advantage of the local mineral springs. The document is part of the JLM Mitchell Archive of the Gaelic Society of Inverness. Ann Matheson (nee MacGregor) was Mitchell's great grandmother and Lachlan Martin Matheson, his great grandfather.

Sheriff James Lachlan Martin Mitchell (b. 13 June 1929) was a native of Inverness and son of well-known doctor, Lachlan Mitchell. He was appointed full-time sheriff in Edinburgh in 1978 and served there until his retirement in 1995. He died on 26 November 2001
