Angus Bain Kennedy, Sheriff Court papers p08

This document from the Highland Council Archive contains details of the charges brought against Angus Bain Kennedy, a former piper living in Glengarry. There are three thefts listed, namely three cows from Duncan Bain Arrach or McKintosh or Fraser, a Bull Stirk from Alexander Fraser, which had been in Stratherrick, (both charges mentioned in a previous warrant) and 5 horses belonging to Malcolm Fraser in Glenbryne, also in Boleskine parish. Dates are given for the alleged thefts, allowing for a margin of error of a month or so either way.

It is pointed out that Angus Bain Kennedy is a "person of notorious bad fame, held and reputed to be a common thief and resetter of stolen goods". However, the material evidences proving the case have not appeared and the petitioner fears that to go to trial without this evidence would give "a notorious offender too much advantage to escape". Angus Bain Kennedy is therefore to be recommitted once again, in order to be brought to trial at a later date.
