Copy of Circular - Skye disturbances pg 1.

On this page there is a 'circular' or legal document intended for numerous people. This was due to the Skye disturbances. 'Lanarkshire' is in the Western Lowlands. Inverness is in the East Highlands, yet the law for the Highlands was largely decided by the landowning class.

During the 1880s, there were many disturbances in Skye. The landowning Macdonald family imposed severe laws on their tenants. Because of the comparative weakness of the Macdonald Laird, the state became involved in these disturbances.

Inverness Castle, as it currently exists, had been designed as a courtroom.
