Strathspey and Reel Societies have been a common feature of the traditional music scene in Scotland since the formation of the first society in Edinburgh in 1881. The Highland branch was formed in 1903. One of its founder members, Alexander Grant (also known as 'Battan') was leader of the society right up until his death in 1942, a period of almost forty years.
This accounts sheet (page 2) records a list of tickets sold, presumably for one of the society's concerts. A list of those issued with complimentary tickets is also given. These include the local press and 'Battan' himself
