Tain Charter, 1529

This Charter confirms the sale of a piece of land to the south of Tain on January 18th 1529. It was sold by Donald Reid to William Ross Malcolm. The Charter gives details of the owners of the surrounding lands and details of the rent to be paid to the chaplains of St Duthac. Although everyone in Tain would have known where the boundaries lay, the written Charter and the Seals provided legal standing.

The Charter was written by Alexander Dingwall and endorsed by two seals. The right hand seal is that of Donald Reid. The other is unclear but is probably that of the Burgh of Tain
