Kyle Pharmacy headed notepaper

Headed notepaper used by Duncan Macpherson, the Kyle of Lochalsh pharmacist. Macpherson was also a keen photographer and supplied photographic materials from his shop, including film, paper and chemicals, as well as providing a printing service.

The rather elaborate crest states grandly that Macpherson was "By appointment Chemist to H.H.The Maharajah Gaekwar of Baroda". The Maharajah owned an estate near Kyle for a time, and Macpherson seems to have supplied him with items from the pharmacy which allowed the pharmacist to use the crest, possibly rather tongue in cheek. The letter refers to the account of Forbes Brown, a regular purchaser of photographic materials from Macpherson, with his reply written on the reverse.

This item is one of a collection of archive papers associated with Duncan Macpherson's Pharmacy, along with around 1200 photographs
