Letter from James Campbell 22 Apr 1800 (2)

Letter from James Campbell at the Shakespear Tavern in London to his parents in Dalcross. The letter is dated 22 April 1800.

James has arrived safely in London, where his uncle is to send him to school. He is to learn to be a cook, as his uncle says that that is the best business going. James asks his parents to tell William Fraser's father that he is well and that James' uncle is trying to get him (Fraser) into the 9th Regiment of Foot, but he is not very willing as it is an English regiment.

James asks his parents to send him some dried fish and whisky. As an afterthought, he adds a postscript telling his parents that his uncle has changed his (James') name to James Bain
