This anonymous poem, entitled 'On the Queen's Unknown Visit to the Highlands in September 1860', was written about a secret visit by Queen Victoria to the area around Glenfeshie and Grantown of Strathspey. It is said in the poem that nobody recognised the Queen and she stayed in the inn as an ordinary person

The poem is signed 'A McG'. The style and subject matter are reminiscent of the Dundee poet William McGonagall
