Rent Book

Rent Book from Dalcross, near Inverness. The left hand page is dated 22nd April 1776 and the right hand page is dated 8th June 1777. Both pages are signed Donald Mackintosh.

The page on the right records rent received 'from Alexr. Campbell in Dalcross four bols (bolls) two firlots and one lipie (lippie) of oatmeal in full of his farm and stipend meal ...'

A firlot was equivalent to about 53 litres of oats. There were four lippies in a peck, four pecks in a firlot and four firlots in a boll. The stipend was a regular payment in support of a parish minister. It could be paid in money or, as in this case, grain
