Letter from Francois Mitterand to the Normandy veterans

This letter was written by Francois Mitterrand, President of France, in June 1994, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Normandy landings. It is a letter of welcome to the Allied veterans who were returning to Normandy to take part in the commemorative events. Mitterrand speaks in the letter of the 'prodigious acts of bravery and tenacity' accomplished by those involved.

This letter was provided by William Shand who took part in the Normandy campaign in 1944 and who was interviewed by pupils of Rosebank Primary School, Nairn, as part of a War Detectives project in 2005
