Soldier's Release Book

This image shows the front cover of a soldier's release book class A. The release book was issued to John Cameron Gordon of the Royal Signals and the red stamp on the front shows that he was an ex prisoner of war. Signalman Gordon, while serving in Malaya, was captured by Japanese soldiers. He spent a period of three years as a prisoner of war before being repatriated in 1945. The instructions on the release book state that the book must be presented at the post office when cashing postal drafts or drafts from payment books.

After the war years, John Gordon went on to become the proprietor of the music shop, 'The Record Rendezvous', located at Church Street, Inverness.
