This image shows a soldier's release book class A. The release book was issued to John Cameron Gordon of the Royal Signals, an ex prisoner of war. Signalman Gordon, while serving in Malaya, was captured by Japanese soldiers. He spent a period of three years as a prisoner of war before being repatriated in 1945.
Page 4 of the release book gives instructions to soldiers requiring hospital treatment while on leave. The first paragraph states that the book should be shown to the hospital authorities when admitted to or attending hospital. In-patient treatment is normally given at the nearest military or civil Emergency Medical Scheme hospitals. Emergency dental treatment can be obtained at Army dental centres and military hospitals.
After the war years, John Gordon went on to become the proprietor of the music shop, 'The Record Rendezvous', located at Church Street, Inverness.
