On 22 April 1490, Thomas Copland [Coupland] was presented by Andrew Fercharson to the chaplainship of St Peter in Inverness Parish Church.

The image shows the front of the document.

In this document, dated 20 July 1490, Andrew, Bishop of Moray confirms the appointment by commanding 'John M'Cellan, vicar of Fernway, or any of his chaplains, to invest, induct, and appoint the said Thomas in said office, to defend him therein and to furnish him with the fruits thereof.'

The original document is in Latin. Ref: Charles Fraser-Mackintosh's 1875 publication, 'Invernessiana: Contributions Toward a History of the Town and Parish of Inverness, from 1160 to 1599' (p 161).
