Document Connected to The Golden Charter (Back)

This paper document, written in Scots, is endorsed on the rear 'The Touns Great Charter dated the 1st January 1591 made by King James the 6 and his Parliament'. It therefore appears to be connected to the 'The Golden Charter' or 'Great Charter' in which James VI ratifies most of the prior royal charters from the time of William the Lion. (The Golden Charter is dated 1591, but the year in Scotland did not start on January 1st until 1600 ; officially a year began on March 25th (Lady Day) after Christmas, so January 1st 1591 is actually January 1st 1592.)

The image shows the back of the document.

This document includes the following phrases in Scots: Oure souverane lord; hie estate of parliament; to sustain the kirkis grammar and sang-schools hospitallis portis boigis and calsaying thereof; and for sustaining of ministers schoolmaisters ane pure within the samyn and hospitallis thairof; under the great seal at Halyrud hous with advice of lords of the 'secreit counsall' ratifys and confirms to the above all comon lands, profits etc in all time coming.'
