"By the age of 18 I had lived in three different continents. I was born in Africa, sent to school in Goa (India) and then joined my family in Edinburgh because they had to leave Uganda. So, coming to Scotland was not a conscious decision, I just ended up here because of family circumstances. Having i finished my university education in Edinburgh and met my husband who is Scottish. We moved to the Highlands because of his connections to the area and to set up an organic cheese making business.

I was brought up speaking English and have no strong attachment to place, but the Highlands seem as good a place as any. Having been brought up in different cultures and places, I have learned not to be too strongly attached to objects and to adapt to wherever I ended up! But I do miss the smells, some foods, aspects of the environment and culture from Goa. Getting to know Scottish people can be hard work. They appear to forget that they were a country of emigrants; however, at the same time at an individual level people are the same everywhere."

Tha iad uile a' cur ri Alba ùr.
