But on Seturday nicht now, the followin Seturday, everything seemed to have calmed doon, an e toon hid mounted sort o foot patrols till go roon an see at there wis no trouble on e streets. An a gang o youths fae Pulteneytoon hid formed up, doon at the harbour an they'd been throwin stauns at Hielan men that were in their boats, ye see, maybe tidyin up their boats. An then is mob, there wis aboot fifteen or twenty o them, they decided till run through Pulteney, where most o the Hielan men were in e street, an of course, they were makin noise an shoutin. Now a lot o people, Hielan men at were ludgin in Wick, came till e door till see. Some eleven people were stabbed by this mob. Absolutely totally innocent people at hid nauchtin whatsoever to do wi anythin. Is immediately electrified e whole atmosphere again which wis beginning till relax as a result. E news o is appalin crime spread through e toon like wildfire and several people were very badly injured indeed. The perpetrators of course vanished, although they did get them eventually. And e navy wis called oot; they immediately in double order all rushed through e toon an took up strategic positions to stop any reaction comin fae the island people but whit's again diffused e situation wis the fact that the local people, the Wickers, were so appalled at whit these boys hid done, that they all rushed till e assistance an help of the people that had been stabbed, an nobody died. An again, as great good luck would hiv it, two o the toon's doctors happened to be in the area attendin till other people an they were able till staunch the bleedin an staunch the wounds, an nobody died as a result.

Now again, immediately, riotin broke oot - when Ah say riotin, fechts Ah would say more than riotin, cos they it never got more widespread, but there were tit for tat battles broke oot, an a pub wis wrecked in Staxigoe an all sorts o things, but nauchtin very serious. They contained the whole situation. And on Monday mornin the toon council o Wick immediately posted a reward o £25 for information, wis a lot o money then, leadin to the apprehension of the people at hid done e stabbin, an of course, leaders of the Hielan, or spokesmen for e Hielan community were greatly reassured by this, at e population in Wick generally, an e toon council in particular, were really as distressed as they were aboot fit had happened an really meant business. An they eventually did arrest wan man an he wis imprisoned for it. The Hielan men that year went home early, they went home aboot - the whole fleet went home aboot three weeks earlier than they should hiv as a result o it - but of course the authorities still pursued e maitter of the rioter at had been arrested the Seturday before at. They still pursued him as far as Lewis, an sheriff's officers went wi a warrant till Lewis, till arrest him, but they never got him. They never got him. An that wis how the episode sort of died doon, but it could have been extremely dangerous
