Snow Drift at Tirriemore Croft, March 1963 - Image 2

This photograph from the Grantown Museum archives shows a farm worker and his dog standing on a snow drift that reached the roof of Tirriemore croft house, located approximately 10 km outside of Grantown on Spey, near Lochindorb.

It is thought that the image dates from March 1963, and indeed the winter of 1962/63 was a particularly severe one in that area.

Tirriemore croft house was the inspiration for a best-selling romantic novel called 'The Key Above The Door' by Irish author Maurice Walsh. The book was published in 1926 and the croft house became a popular destination for fans of Walsh's novel.
